The event was won by Colin McRae Colin and Derek Ringer in a Subaru Impreza 555 — crowning the 27-year old Scot as World Rally Champion. McRae became the first British driver and the youngest to win the World Rally Championship Drivers’ title — a record he still holds to this day.
