Here’s a scan of a Rally News Service bulletin from the Lombard RAC Rally 1990, based in Harrogate, England and dated Monday, 26 November 1990.

This bulletin was published after SS18, Dalby 2. I was given the bulletin whilst spectating in Dalby.

This was the first ever Rally GB to be run using pacenotes.

Japanese manufacturers were dominant on Monday, 26 November 1990 — with Toyota, Mitsubishi and Mazda locking out the Lancia and Ford challenge.

There was no shortage of drama wrc, this day. Markku Alén had blown the engine on his Subaru Legacy RS on SS14, Wykeham 1.

Pentti Airikkala retired from the rally after a huge off in his Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4x 4 on SS16, Cropton 1.

Juha Kankkunen’s Lancia Delta Integrale 16V was suffering with brake problems and Russell Brookes’ Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4x4 had electrical issues.

Uncharacteristically, Malcolm Wilson had reportedly backed off on the rough Dalby stage, in order to save the suspension on his Q8 Team Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4x4.

Future world champions who appeared lower down the Entry List in 1990 included Tommi Mäkinen (car #29) and Colin McRae (car #27).

Car #81 on the rally was driven by a 19-year old Richard Burns, driving a Group N Peugeot 309 GTI — his first ever Rally GB.

The event was won by Carlos Sainz and Luis Moya in a Toyota Celica GT-4 (ST165).
