Plenty to celebrate as Rallyday returns with September 2021 date
Autumn wouldn’t be autumn without Rallyday and we’re delighted to confirm a September date for Europe’s biggest single-day rally show in 2021.
And, being 2021, there’s an awful lot to talk about.
The Rallyday 2021 headlines will be a celebration and commemoration of three of British rallying’s most celebrated seasons — and two of those came in 1981.
In the World Rally Championship Ari Vatanen and David Richards were crowned winners in their David Sutton-run, Rothmans-backed Ford Escort RS1800. A month or so earlier, Jimmy McRae and Ian Grindrod celebrated a maiden British Rally Championship title in their Opel Ascona 400.
And yes, we’re aware that Ari Vatanen might be a little more Finnish than he is British, but we also know that everybody coming to Rallyday supports the man who invented sideways like he’s one of our own.
The other championship success is, of course, Richard Burns and Robert Reid winning the 2001 World Rally Championship.
Rallyday will place those three magnificent moments at the heart of next year’s event.
Rallyday organiser Tom Davis said: “To be able to put together a day involving the best of those three championships is really something special for us. Remembering those great days from 20 and 40 years ago will help to make the 2021 Rallyday one of the very best yet.
“But beyond those celebrations, we’re working closely with M-Sport, with Prodrive and, of course, BGMsport to make sure we have the best and most relevant rally cars out there on display and being driven — and being driven in the spirit in which they were made.
“Last time out we ran the Rally Legends stage which was an absolute highlight — that will be back with refinements and improvements to make it an even bigger hit and we’ll have the usual rally car packages available to make Rallyday an unmissable day’s entertainment whatever your involvement in the sport.”
As well as the on-track action, Rallyday will deliver plenty of shopping opportunities where you can buy anything from a ratchet strap to a trailer — and even a rally car that you can ratchet strap to your trailer.
“The last year has been pretty miserable regardless of where you’ve been in the world,” continued Davis, “but starting to plan events like Rallyday has brought a real ray of sunshine into this corner of Wiltshire.
“We know rally fans have had it tough and we’re determined to give everybody something to smile about with an absolutely amazing show on a September date which sits well away from any round of the World Rally Championship.”
