Double the action as Race Retro expands to two live rally stages! 🇬🇧
Prepare for double the action at this year’s Race Retro, powered by Motor Sport, as the show organisers have announced that the outdoor motorsport will expand to two Live Rally Stages.
With a record number of entries, Rallying with Group B (RWGB) will see some 120 cars including ex-works cars with motorsport champions at the wheel take on the new stages on the Saturday and Sunday at Stoneleigh Park.
Show Director Lee Masters said:
“Over the past three years, the Live Rally Stage has seen more cars running each year with more champions from both yesteryear and modern rallying taking part.
“With the venue affected by works on the HS2 trainline, 2019 gave us the opportunity to look at the grounds to create a new Live Rally Stage — but with the number of entries and the space available, we decided to expand the action on offer with the second stage which means more runs for all the cars and drivers and more live action for the spectators.”
Both stages are side by side and are a short walk from the main entrance, turning left towards where Silverstone Auctions’ sale takes place.
Each day, Finnish rally ‘professor’ Rauno Aaltonen will be driving his original Mini Cooper S he drove in the Monte Carlo Rally in period to kick off the day’s action.
Cars taking part include Impreza 99 WRC, Cosworths, Evo. Delta Integrale 16v, as well as Ferrari, Porsche and Esprit. Ford Escorts and Peugeots will dominate the runners and riders list, which features many recognisable names including Jimmy McRae and several British Champions such as Jason Pritchard, Chris Ingram and David Wright.
Cars making their Race Retro debut include Hyundai i20 R5, which will be campaigned by Meirion Evans while Stuart Newby and the team behind the Skodaru Tegsport Protoype are working hard to get the car ready for its first outing.
Both Live Rally Stages will only be in operation on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 February with the morning session starting at 10am with a display of historic karting before the cars come out at 10.30am to 1pm. The afternoon session starts with the karts at 2pm before the cars take over at 2.30pm till 4.30pm.
