Avcioglu to be first Turkish driver in WRC2
Istanbul-based Toksport WRT, is preparing for Orhan Avcioglu and Burcin Korkmaz to become the first Turkish crew to compete in WRC2, driving a Škoda Fabia R5 in the forthcoming round in Spain.
The team’s current program includes Rally RACC Catalunya between 5th and 8th of October followed by Wales Rally GB between 26th and 29th of October.
Avcioglu and Toksport WRT are looking to use the experience as a platform a full WRC2 campaign next year.
Commenting on his big career step, Orhan Avcioglu said: “Our WRC2 program consists of RallyRACC Catalunya and Wales Rally GB. The WRC2 class stands out for being the most competitive category for R5 cars. This will be my first time competing in Spain and GB, as well as my first time driving the Skoda Fabia R5. Our goal for 2018 is to compete in full WRC2 campaign. We are planning to take this opportunity to gain some experience and prepare in the best possible way for 2018 and beyond.”
About Orhan Avcioglu
Born on 4th of September 1985, Orhan Avcioglu was born into a rally legend family as the son of former Turkish Rally Champions Azmi-Beyza Avcioglu. Since his first rally start in 2005, Orhan has won numerous rallies and titles including junior championships as well as front wheel drive category in Turkish Rally Championship. Orhan Avcioglu together with his co-driver Burcin Korkmaz are currently leading the standings in European Rally Trophy Balkan Region. Orhan has been a part of Toksport WRT since January 2017.
